MALLORCA

Majorca, also called Mallorca or simply dubbed as the “major” island, is the biggest of the Balearic Islands. A blend of ancient myth, paradise, and the remarkable tourism industry, this island is also sometimes called the Mediterranean Lady.

Boasting of its rich heritage, this island is filled with interesting remains of megalithic monuments that date back to prehistoric times. The people and language are almost similar to Catalonia, with influences from nearby Italy and France, as well as the Greeks, Romans, Moors, and Barbary pirates. It has long been a favourite destination of tourists, mainly artists and intellectuals. Its tourism developed as early as the 1920s.

Hidden beaches like Palma de Majorca, or Palma, is also home to more than half of the population, and is the only true city on the island. Its old quarter is a charming mix of cobbled laneways, palaces, churches, and designer bars, but is also brimming with tacky souvenir shops for the tourists. For a diverse experience, one can take scenic drives around the island and discover Gothic architecture, hilltop villages, and olive groves and of course, the famous Serra de Tramuntana Mountains that loom over this beautiful paradise.

Its attractive climate, landscapes and cosmopolitan ambience, Majorca has indeed become a favourite destination among people who wish to enjoy a holiday and a rich cultural experience.
