TORREVIEJA

Torrevieja, a city which got its name from,” the old tower”, has fast become a favourite destination of tourists from Barcelona, Madrid and other European cities. From a quiet and laidback fishing town on the Costa Blanca, it is now winning the hearts of visitors with its clear blue skies and sparkling blue waters.

It prides itself with a harbour that gives home to more than 300 fishing ships and over 900 private sport boats. A classic display of this pride is nestled in the heart of the city, the Museo del Mar y Sal (Museum of Sea and Salt) which showcases how precious the sea is to the people of Torrevieja.

A recent expansion of Torrevieja’s Marina and a makeover of its promenade give an added allure, as it ensures safe seawater swimming pool. For an exceptional gastronomical experience, restaurants and bars are open from lunchtime to serve tapas and snacks. Delectable a la carte menus are also available until the romantic hours of the evening.

Fun and merriment are signatures of Torrevieja culture. During spring and summer, a fun fair is held for friends and families alike. The Friday market is a must-see for the curious traveller in search of a little something to take home. The market has everything from designer clothes, shoes, woven fabrics and lots of jewellery. Everyday, locals and tourists trek down by the harbour to behold the spectacular sight of the fishing fleets haul in the day’s catch.

With its fantastic beaches, fresh seafood and affordable accommodations, Torrivieja will no doubt find itself among the best travel destinations in the world.
