BLANES
Located on the bay formed by the Rock of Santa Palomera and Santa Anna Point, lies the city Blanes. It is best known for three things: a commercial, fishing and sporting harbour.Tourists have been flocking to Blanes since the early 1960s to experience its beaches during summer time. The influx of tourists has then transformed Blanes from a fishing village to a most visited tourist destination. Not many locals work in the fishing industry anymore and most of the boats in the harbour are now for recreational purposes, primarily for tourists. With a booming tourist industry, there is an abundance of entertainment venues in Blanes such as café, restaurants and bars.
Despite their many visitors, the city has thoughtfully preserved its traditions. In summer, activities such as Cantades d'Havaneres (popular folksong concerts) are held, as well as dance festivals, Sardanes, (typical Catalonian street dancing) to showcase the local customs of the town.
In the middle of the old town lies the Town Hall and it also takes pride on the many churches and hermitages such as the Santa Barbara, Nostra Senyora de l'Antiga and the Verge del Vilar.
For people with active lifestyles, Blanes has more to offer than a quick swim in its wonderful beaches. In its excellent municipal and private sports centres you get a chance to practice and choose among the twenty possible sports that would strike your fancy.
With a fusion of the old and new, Blanes is the delightfully a perfect destination for people of all ages and interests.
