SANT FELIU DE GUIXOLS
The city of Sant Feliu de Guixols is situated in the centre of the Costa Brava. Spring almost never leaves the area because the climate is mild during most of the year.All year round Sant Feliu is a whirlwind of intense commercial activity. There is an open market-place where fresh vegetables and fruits are sold, and a closed market, where fresh fish caught the night before can be bought.
A burgeoning tourist community has prompted many leisure and cultural activities. Shops, cafés and bars line the seafront and the city centre. The town safeguards a rich and astounding historical and architectural heritage. A perfect embodiment of this is the architectural complex of the Monastery, built in 1723 by the Benedictine order, which includes the Porta Ferradaj, the symbol of the town, and the towers of the Corn and Fum. In addition, the municipal council organizes numerous leisure and cultural activities to maintain the town's most deeply-rooted traditions.
Good Mediterranean cuisine is also accessible in the city’s many restaurants. Fish dishes are very popular, such as the Suquet de Peix, Suquet D'anxoves, sea urchins and the most popular Sant Feliu dish—the blue fish. A large sea-promenade enclosed by strong pine trees and palms is also worth a visit.
