The regional capital in southeastern Spain, Fuente Alamo, is well connected to the major cities and is only 35 kilometres away from Murcia. The town boasts of beautiful sceneries and a lovely climate all throughout the year. Fuente Alamo is large enough and is near an impressive coast making it ideal for rural tourism. Major parts of the town are hillier while some are open plains. The ranges of Agarrobo, Pinilla, Los Gomez, Los Victorias, Cabezos de Tallante and the Carrascoy National Park, whose highest peak is La Peña del Aguila can be found in Fuente Alamo.
Fuente Alamo was only properly recognized and established in the 16th century even though a great number of settlers were very much attracted to it in the prehistoric times as well as the Roman times.
The inhabitants of Fuente Alamo celebrate special holidays that include fiestas or festivals, Easters, and Christmases. They commemorate and give honour to their town’s patron saint, St. Augustine, annually every 28th of August.
Aside from the yearly St. Augustine commemoration, there are other popular festivals that people would want to see and celebrate. Actively taking part in the preparations and celebrations are the locals. Most of them are members of associations or peñas and gladly welcome outsiders, whether locals or travellers, to join them in all the exciting festivities.
The town’s main vegetation is scrub and bush although there are still some pine forests in the Carrascoy National Park. Popular activities include hill walking, mountain biking and horse riding as the place is very ideal for such. Over the years, Fuente Alamo has become one of the best stopping places for people who are interested in rural tourism, village attractions, country mansions and various traditional windmills.
