JUMILLA

Jumilla is strategically located in the Murcian region where coastal terrains give way to the La Mancha plains. This town is very popular to locals and tourists for its excellent wine production and a history and culture so rich in heritage. Jumilla is deeply immersed in its history as depicted in the town’s evolution and development.



The Iberian village of Coimbra in the Barranco Ancho is one of the most important areas in the region together with the Roman villas whose remains can be found at the town’s Jeronimo Molina museum. The Arabs greatly influenced the town and left a legacy very much apparent in the names of places and archaeology.

When the Reconquest repossessed the region for Christianity, the town of Jumilla was placed under the protection of the Manor of Villena. It was around this period that the present day Jumilla started to take its structure. Radiating the town’s beauty and splendour are the buildings constructed before that includes the patio de armas, the Ancient Council and Exchange, the Church of El Salvador, and a the 15th century Castle located on top of a hill in Jumilla.

Nature lovers, whether locals or tourists, are very much attracted to the beauty of Jumilla and the areas in the countryside like Sierra de Carche, Sierra Larga and Sierra de Santa Ana. Also popular for the local flora and fauna, tourists will find that Jumilla has a lot of special and interesting things to offer.
