San Javier airport is a small airport located just 45 kilometres outside of Murcia along the Mar Menor Lake. This airport is presently used by a number of German and English airlines offering regular flights to different destinations in the European region.
Murcia does not have its own airport but the San Javier airport is currently referred to as the main airport in Murcia. The only mode of transportation from the airport is by a taxi or a rented car. Because of Murcia’s warm climate, train stations and bus connections do not exist.
A private company established a new airport in Corvera, Murcia because of the inconvenience of limited mode of transportation. On the southern slopes of Sierra de Carrascoy Mountains is where the inland town is situated and it is only 20 minutes away from Murcia. The new Corvera airport will only be a 10-minute drive away when it opens in the year 2008.
The new airport is said to serve a comprehensive range of European and UK low-cost airlines. The town of Corvera is rapidly developing new facilities and properties, as an addition to the spectacular landscapes, and almond and melon groves. Prestigious country clubs and golf courses are also currently being developed. The renowned La Murta Observatory is just nearby, which adds to the important tourist destinations when people would come to see the place. The opening of the new airport in 2008 serves as an answer to the influx of visitors in the future.
