A town, which prides itself of its wealth in culture and beauty of nature, is Huercal Overa. It is located between the two branches of the Almanzora River and is known to be one of the many beautiful towns of Almeria.
Despite its tranquillity this town bursts alive on Monday mornings, where it is taken over by street markets. It is also famous for its religious celebrations where people come and witness the Huercal Overa procession on Easter Week where statues are carried across town to celebrate the Passion of Christ.
Popular religious destinations, which showcase impressive architectures, are the Parish Church de Nuestra Seņora de la Asuncion (1505), Chapel of Jesus Nazareno (1749), and the Parish Church de Nuestra Seņora de la Virgen (1748). It is in the Chapel of Jesus Nazareno where the statue of Jesus Nazareno carved by Francisco Salzillo can be found. Other interesting spots and infrastructure in Huercal Overa include the Via Crucis that leads to Hermitage del Calvario, the old Posito (Granary), and an old bell tower from the Middle Ages.
The town is also covered in rich greens and pine plantations. The forest of Huercal Overa abounds in almond, citrus, and olive trees. With bountiful nature fused with many modern facilities such as leisure centre, municipal swimming pool, hotels and a variety of restaurants, a trip to Huercal Overa can be done with ease and comfort. It is also famous for the two remarkable restaurants that serve sumptuous homemade meals, Andalusia and Ballabona, making them regular tourist destinations.
