COSTA DE LA LUZ

Wide-open spaces in a wonderful mix of golden sand and lush greenery… The place of Costa de la Luz, or the "Coast of Light", shines through.

Its name comes from a bright, vivid light that highlights the exquisiteness of surroundings. The golden hue of the dunes and the reflection of the silver sea, the only greyish tint in this land of colour, the lush greenery given off by world-renowned vineyards are just among the sights to behold in this exquisite myriad of colours.

Costa de la Luz extends along the Atlantic coastline of the western provinces in the autonomous region of Andalucía, Southern Spain, and is usually thought of in two sections: the coast along the province of Huelva, which is bordered by Portugal on its western side, and that of the province of Cadiz, which stretches from the Guadalquivir River to Tarifa and the Mediterranean Sea in the east.

The long beaches of Costa de la Luz are of finer and more golden sands, and its waters are slightly cooler than those of the eastern coast. This coast, with the strong winds coming from the Atlantic, characterized by a wild shore, has become popular with surfers and windsurfers. Undoubtedly, it is a virtual paradise for sports aficionados.

As one of the latest regions to be developed for tourism in Spain, with no high-rise hotel developments as of yet, this area has successfully preserved its pristine environment and remains largely unspoiled. Spending a quiet holiday in Costa de la Luz, one can simply enjoy golf, the beach and the seafood dining away from the regular tourist crowds.

Costa de la Luz is accessible via the airports at Sevilla and Jerez.
