One of Spain's most popular tourist attractions, Mijas is a picturesque whitewashed village in the beautiful country of Spain. Only a 15-minute drive from the coastal resorts of Benalmadena and Fuengirola, Mijas is known to be perched high in the mountains but has proudly retained its original features.The chapels, churches, narrow cobbled streets, and old buildings are still active and were retained. Mijas also has its own unique taxi service - the donkeys or the burros. Before the burros were known to bring lime and marble to the coast but were converted into "taxis". This mode of transportation can still be found in this town of Spain bringing locals and tourists a more unique experience. The beautiful town of Mijas also takes pride in the fabulous 5-star hotel-spa Byblos at Mijas Golf known for its décor and impressive architecture and its two excellent golf courses as excellent sporting facilities.
At present, Mijas is considered as one of Spain's richest towns with a setting so spectacular. With an estimated population of 75,000, the town was a farming village just a few years ago but has been greatly developed by its inhabitants. The most popular tourist spot in Mijas is the old town because of its well-preserved charm.
