COSTA DORADA

A beautifully enticing 220 km stretch of golden beaches, from the eastern coast of Iberian Peninsula to the province of Tarrogona is Costa Dorada.

Boasting of an almost endless sunshine reflected upon the sand of its magnificent beaches gave Costa Dorada its name…the Golden Coast of Spain.

Soaking up some local culture and history is also a fine way to enjoy this beautiful coast. An important army base in Roman times and today boasts historical ruins and a variety of museums is the main city of Tarragona. Excursions inland, among vineyards, olive groves and almond plantations, take in the quaint medieval city of Montblanc with its fine Gothic church, and there are some interesting monastery ruins dating back to the 12th century at Poblet. This town is also home to major tourist towns, fishing villages, and resorts in the Southern Catalonian region, such as Sitges, Salou, Cambrils, L'Ametlla de Mar, Torredembarra, and Calafell.

The Golden Coast with all its grandeur also covers 10 counties and 183 municipalities, and has two distinct sectors: in the North are long, sandy beaches with a mild climate, and in the South is the delta of the great river, Ebro, a natural park with an unspoilt landscape, housing a variety of bird life including flamingos.

Saying that Costa Dorada is just known for its golden hue would be such an understatement for this place is a myriad of colours: the deep blue sea, the gold sand and stones in the monuments, the green mountains and golf courses, and the red vineyards.
